Isaiah 55:8-9 “ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither your ways are my ways “ declares the Lord “as the heaven is higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
I do not normally like to share about money matter because I assumed everyone views the concept as unspiritual. But I have handled church finances for so long that I actually have so many testimonies and experiences with God’s wisdom and guidance. For some of you, this is probably no big deal, but this time I was touched and lead by the Holy Spirit that I should share.
For the last few years, we have church family that make donation in individual stock shares or mutual fund. The donor(s) will put me on alert so I can sell the donated securities on the same day it was donated due to market volatility. Most of the time it is very tempted to keep the securities in our brokerage account because they donated good valued securities and it can continue to go up more. Recently a church family alerted me that they will donate some individual stock shares in a few days. But for some logistic crossed communications, I was informed three days later and it was on a Friday evening. I was actually panic because the donated shares might have gone down in value by Monday. At the same time when I noticed the donated shares was Disney, I was very tempted to keep it as it might increase in value. This is very challenging.
But in reality I have to sell so on Sunday evening I checked the future of Dow Jones and it was positive so I placed a sell order on the donated shares. Very thankful and grateful and that I sold the shares 14% higher than the donated value on Monday morning when the market opens.
I am very thankful God has given me the wisdom of differentiation and make wise decision. Even I was 3 days late but with God’s protection it turned out fine. A profit of 14% is huge considered what we get for bank’s saving account interest annually is only 1% or less.
